January 24th:

Clakamas Community College will be holding a softball camp at Hanby Middle School on January 24th. Former Comets, Susan Winningham – 2007 5A All-State Selection and 2008 All-Southern Region 1st Team Selection; Ashleigh Cuddie – 2007 5A Pitcher of the Year; and Becca Lokeno – 2007 Southern Sky All-League Selection will be on hand as well.

2009 Season Preview

Get those lawn chairs ready and have those sunflower seeds in hand, because Comet Softball is getting ready for what promises to be a great season in 2009! We will be working hard in the off-season to learn fundamentals and develop the skills that make Comet ASA teams successful. In 2009 we will put on the field a 16/18U team, a 14U team, two 12U teams, and a 10U team. Our Comets will play several games at the Crater High School facility, as well as take part in tournaments at locations around the state.

The 2008 season was filled with accomplishments:

Our 14s worked hard to develop athleticism and it paid off! They had many successful finishes in tournament play, and finished the season by playing in the Western National Tournament at Wallace Marine Park in Salem. The tournament featured 48 teams from many different states, and our girls represented us well!
We were fortunate to have two groups of 12s, and each group competed in both local games and several tournaments. The younger girls showed a great deal of enthusiasm for the game, which will serve them well as they continue to play!
Once again Comet Softball fielded a 10U team, which is a great indication of the future of the program! Our girls competed every time they stepped on the diamond and each one had a lot of fun. The future of Comet Softball looks bright!
Our 16U team saw a somewhat shortened season, due to the high school team going deep into the postseason and winning their second consecutive State Championship! Despite losing some graduating seniors, our young ladies had a strong summer and played well in the state tournament at US Cellular fields. We take pride in each of our teams and work hard to be the best. Please make plans to come out to the fields and support these young athletes as they represent the program and our community!
